The Fourth Roundtable Conference on Sino-African Cooperation was jointly convened by the Association of Former Diplomats of China and the government of Hainan Province in the city of Wanning, Hainan Province on November 20th, 2013. Vice Minister Niu Dun attended and addressed the opening ceremony.
Niu stated that, in recent years, there has been increasing exchange of high-level visits and constant improvements in cooperation mechanisms in the area of agriculture between China and Africa. At the same time, bilateral and multilateral scientific and technological cooperation were deepening, and agricultural investment and trade were expanding. Ministry of Agriculture is willing to see the Roundtable Conference on Sino-African Cooperation as a platform to further promote Sino-African agricultural cooperation. To achieve this, Niu proposed the following suggestions:
First, China and Africa shall maintain the momentum high-level visits in agriculture, and strive for greater consensus on issues of Sino-African agricultural cooperation;
Second, China and Africa shall intensify coordination efforts on agriculture and food policies under multilateral frameworks to create a global environment favorable to agricultural development;
Third, China and Africa shall deepen both bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the sector of agricultural science and technology to take the cooperation to a new level.
Fourth, China and Africa shall encourage cooperation in the private sector and promote agricultural trade.
After the conference, Niu Dun met with former President of Namibia Sam Nujoma. The two sides exchanged views on further enhancing China-Namibian agricultural cooperation, especially on expanding bilateral trade of animal products.
